Carlos David Yingst, 73, of East Palatka, Florida peacefully transitioned on Friday, November 7, 2008 at 6:00 AM, after a prolonged illness at Haven Hospice of the Lakes Roberts Care Center. Carlos was born on December 12, 1934 in Fox Chase, Pennsylvania to Alice S. and Benjamin F. Yingst. He was raised in Chalfont, PA and graduated from Landsdale High School in 1952. Upon graduation, Mr. Yingst joined the US Air Force and was honorably discharged (retired) in 1972. As part of the 1041st USAF Security Police Squadron, TSGT Yingst served two tours of duty in Vietnam and received the "Bronze Star Medal for Outstanding Achievement" in 1967, the "Air Force Commendation Medal, First Oak Leaf Cluster, for Meritorious Service" in 1970 and the "Meritorious Service Medal" in 1972 for his service while stationed in Korea. TSGT Yingst participated in the USAF combat training program and completed US Army Ranger School in 1966, this elite group of US Air Force Rangers have been featured on the History Channel in a Vietnam war documentary. Mr. Yingst worked for the Alachua County Sheriff's Department from 1972 through retirement as Master Deputy from ASO in 1994. Mr. Yingst is a graduate of Santa Fe College and received his baccalaureate degree in Public Administration and Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida. Mr. Yingst enjoyed his retirement years on the St Johns River in East Palatka. To cherish his memories, Carlos Yingst is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Tomiko Takahashi Yingst of East Palatka, Florida; Son Carlos D. (Susan) Yingst, Jr; grandchildren David, Dana and Dianne all of Slidell, Louisiana; his daughter Elizabeth Lee (Danny) Johnson; grandchild Danielle all of Gainesville, Florida; his daughter Jacqueline K. Yingst; grandchild Tyler P. King, both of East Palatka, Florida; Son Joji M. (Victoria) Yingst; wife Victoria; grandson Thomas Vosburgh all of Green Cove Springs, Florida; sister, Nancy Cook, Pennsylvania; and a host of other relatives. There will be a private, quiet family memorial and interment.
