Carliss Cassandra Walker, 58, of Westland, MI, entered the sunset of life on Friday, march 20, 2009 at her residence. She was native of Palatka, born November 15, 1950. She had resided in Michigan for the past year, moving from Gainesville. The daughter of Arliss C. Walker, Sr. and Mildred Hankins Walker, Carliss was a 1968 graduate of Central Academy High School and earned a Bachelors degree in Mathematics in 1973 at Bethune Cookman College, Daytona Beach, FL. She was affiliated with Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority. She was a member of Burning Bush International Ministries, Ypsilanti, Michigan, Pastor Don W. Shelby, Jr. She was a former member of Showers of Blessings Harvest Center, Gainesville, Pastor Willie L. King, Jr. and Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, Palatka, Pastor Karl N. Flagg. Carliss was a Senior Engineer for more than thirty years with Michigan Bell and the first black female engineer for Southern Bell in Orlando, FL. She was previously a supervisor at Taachale in Gainesville and was an educator, she formerly taught math at Palatka High School. As a devoted mother, sister, and friend to all, she often labored in prayer for her family and friends. Carliss never missed an opportunity to educate all who knew and loved her. Carliss is preceded in eternal rest by her parents, Arliss C. and Mildred Walker; two sisters, Marion Walker & Cynthia Walker-Edwards. To cherish her memories: four devoted sons, Leonard L. Bryant, III, Lonnie L. Bryant and Lionel L. Bryant, all of Westland, MI., Leon L. Bryant, Gainesville; beloved daughter, Kimberly (John) Crump, Winston Salem, NC., loving sisters, Kathy B. (Johnnie) Harris, Pamela A. (Gerald) Conley, both of Palatka; Pastor Mary E. (Donald) Lewis, Valdosta, GA., Pamela L. (Lorenzo) Smith, Palatka; caring brothers, Arliss C. (Connie) Walker, Jr., and Joseph (Jeanetta) Walker, both of Jacksonville; six grandchildren, Mikayla VanGieson, Melody VanGieson, Macy Moreno, Fayonnah Jackson-Bryant, all of Westland, MI; Jevante Crump and Maalik Crump, both of Winston-Salem, NC., and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, classmates and dear friends. Visitation of family and friends will be Friday, March 27, from 5-8 p.m. at the Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Church of God by Faith, 1511 Washington Street, Palatka Elder Phillip Thomas, Pastor. Pastor Mary Walker-Lewis, Highways and Hedges Ministry, Valdosta, GA., is the eulogist. A memorial family repast will follow in the churchs fellowship hall.
