Calvin Conwell Monts, Sr., 71, of Seville, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at HCA Florida Putnam Hospital, Palatka. The son of Bobby and Gussie Mae (Lawton) Monts, he was born on Sunday, March 23, 1952 in Newark, Maryland (Worchester County). He was educated in the Volusia County School District and was a 1970 graduate of Taylor High School in Pierson, FL. PFC Monts was inducted into the United States Marine Corps on August 10, 1970 and served as a "mortar man". He earned the National Defense Service Medal and an honorable discharge. He attended St. Johns Baptist Church, Seville. He was self-employed at Monts' Nursery. "Poppy" enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his wife, Eleanor Monts; daughter, Ashley Monts Thomas; grandchildren, Nayana Thomas and Tykey Nixon.
He leaves to cherish his memories: sons and daughters, Derric Ojae Monts, Bobbie Lee Monts, Calvin Monts II, Falicia (Joedeci) Monts-Shelton, Calvin (Amy) Martin, Juwan Mills, Anthony Brown, Tanjala (Sylvester) Gillon; son-in-law, Chester Thomas; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; other relatives and friends including, godson, Anthony "Amp" Clark.
A Celebration of Life with the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard conducting military honors at graveside will commence at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 23, at St. Johns Baptist Cemetery, 207 Cemetery Rd., Seville. Pastor James Vickers, Pastor, New Mt. Tamo Baptist Church, Pomona Park, officiating.
