Brownie (Bryna) Mae Norwood Slinger, 85, of Palatka entered the sunset of life on Monday, February 16, 2015 at Governor's Creek Health and Rehabilitation Center, Green Cove Springs following an extended illness. A native of Pelham, GA., she was born on Saturday, December 7, 1929. The daughter of Deacon "A.U." Alfred Ulysses and Lula Mae (Mitchell) Norwood, she was a 1950 graduate of Central Academy High School, Palatka. In the 1960's she moved to Jersey City, NJ. She met and married Joseph "Joe" Slinger and they resided in New Jersey until they moved to Palatka in 1996. She worked in a garment factory and in a department store over her years of employment. Following retirement, she became a homemaker and caregiver assisting her husband and father. She was a member of Mount Tabor First Baptist Church. Due to declining health, she became a resident of Palatka Health Care Center and later, Governor's Creek Health and Rehab Center. Brownie usually had a very quiet spirit, loved cooking and enjoyed reading. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in eternal rest by a host of aunts, Juanita N. Jefferson, Louise N. Johnson, Jessie Hope, and Sarah Norwood; uncles, Goldie, James, Sr., Albert, Nathaniel, Eddie, King, Jr., William, Warnell, and David Norwood. She leaves to cherish her memories: step-son, Skipper Dielingen, Miami; step-sister, Roberta Harris, Orlando; aunt, Bertha Norwood, Palatka; a host of first cousins, including Donald (Brenda) Lockhart, Sr., Linda (Fred) Marshall, James (Regina) Norwood, Jr., Marietta Mobley, Sarah Williams, Denise Norwood, Mary Ann Norwood, and Diane Norwood, all of Palatka; god-brother, Kelvin J. Davis, Apopka; god-daughter, Florencia Mills (Jim) Boldon, West Palm Beach; and other caring relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be from 10 a.m. until the 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, Homegoing Celebration at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Pastor of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, is the Eulogist. Interment will be in Palatka Memorial Gardens.
