Obituary

Blanche "Cherry" Brown James, 92, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Putnam Community Medical Center. A native of Palatka, she was the daughter of Mary L. Cooper and Jessie Brown, born on Sunday, September 18, 1921. She was educated in the Putnam County School District (Central Academy). In 1963, Blanche relocated to Daytona Beach with her husband Nathaniel "Foots" James. She was a former member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Daytona Beach and was active in the Senior Citizens Ministry. She was employed in housekeeping at the New Frontier Hotel and retired from Halifax Medical Center. After her husband's demise in 2001, she returned to Palatka. She enjoyed watching television (especially the news) and engaging in activities at Palatka Health Care. Blanche's favorite dish was pig feet and mustard greens. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in eternal rest by her sister, Hattie M. Dorsey; uncle, Josh Thomas; aunt, Anna Thomas; niece, Judy Milton Freeman; brother-in-law, Acie James. Dorsey, Sr., Charles (Patricia) Hughes, and Stevie (Rashonda) Watson, all of Palatka; Sister-in-law, Lucille M Rudd, Pemberton, NJ; Great-nieces, Sabrina (Phillip) Oliver, Ste'Vaundra Watson, Kawanda Hughes, Jade Hughes all of Palatka; Sharon Dorsey, Taffy Belser, both of Irvington, NJ; Great-nephews, Herman ( Patricia) Milton, Jr., Clermont, FL (stationed in VA); ; Associate Pastor Anthony Milton, Rickie Belser, Mar"C"uss Dorsey, Darrius Peeples, Joctevius Peeples, all of Palatka; Jimmie L. Belser, Sr., Kenneth Belser, both of Irvington, NJ; CMSgt Freddie L. Dorsey, Jr., Tinker AFB, Oklahoma; Eric Dorsey, Palm Coast; 17 great great grand nieces & nephews; 2 great great great grand nieces & nephews; 1 great great great great nephew; special cousin, Catherine Philpot, Winter Park; Special great great grand niece, La'Tasha Washington, Tampa; host of cousins & caring friends including Evangelist Mary Valequez, Jon Tuten and Mary Fullerton. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, August 8 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m., Saturday, August 9 at Mount Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Pastor, is the Eulogist. The cortege will assemble at Mt. Tabor at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery
