Blanche "Cherry" Brown James, 92, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Putnam Community Medical Center. A native of Palatka, she was the daughter of Mary L. Cooper and Jessie Brown, born on Sunday, September 18, 1921. She was educated in the Putnam County School District (Central Academy). In 1963, Blanche relocated to Daytona Beach with her husband Nathaniel "Foots" James. She was a former member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Daytona Beach and was active in the Senior Citizens Ministry. She was employed in housekeeping at the New Frontier Hotel and retired from Halifax Medical Center. After her husband's demise in 2001, she returned to Palatka. She enjoyed watching television (especially the news) and engaging in activities at Palatka Health Care. Blanche's favorite dish was pig feet and mustard greens. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in eternal rest by her sister, Hattie M. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, August 8 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m., Saturday, August 9 at Mount Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Pastor, is the Eulogist. The cortege will assemble at Mt. Tabor at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery
