IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Billie Faye
Fowler
July 28, 1940 – September 2, 2011
Billie Faye Whiteside Fowler, 71, of Palm Coast, was called to her eternal home to rest on Friday, September 2, 2011 at Florida Hospital-Flagler of Palm Coast following a brief illness. She was the daughter of Gladys and William Whiteside, born on Sunday, July 28, 1940 in Gastonia, North Carolina. At an early age she migrated to Brooklyn, New York where she met and married the love of her life, Frederick Fowler on August 15, 1959. Faye earned a culinary arts degree at The New School in New York City and enjoyed a long successful career in restaurant management. She helped found and was the general manager for the largest black-owned catering facility on the east coast. Faye was a natural leader and held several key positions on various school boards and with the Boy Scouts of America. She also served many years as President of the Vulcanettes, an organization of the wives of black firefighters in New York.
In addition, Faye had a deep-seated love for God and her church. No matter where life took her, she quickly located a church home. She served in multiple ministries at Palm Coast United Methodist Church, including stints as Lay Leader, and Chair of the Ad Council. Blessed with a gifted voice, she took a prominent role in the music ministry by lending her talents to the choir and organizing concerts and programs. Travel was another of Fayes passions. She spent a great deal of time sailing the seas and flying over them on grand adventures with Fred and their group of special friends. Through all of this, Fayes greatest love was for her family. Her devotion to and love for her family was unwavering and unconditional. Those who knew her best witnessed daily proof that there was absolutely nothing she would not do for her family. "Faye" will continue to reside in all of our hearts forever.
Her legacy will be celebrated by her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Fred; her three sons Frederick, Kenneth, and Steven; her grandchildren, Kristen, Ricky Jr., Morgan, and Nicholas; her first cousin Michael who was like a brother; and Doreen and Linda who she referred to as her daughters; and a host of other relatives and friends whom she loved dearly.
Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Palm Coast United Methodist Church, 5200 Belle Terre Parkway, Palm Coast, FL. Reverend Scott Farman, Senior Pastor. Visitation of family and friends: Wednesday from 9-11 a.m.
Interment will be 9 a.m. Thursday, September 8, at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
