Pastor Betty Lee Ross Scott Tutt, 74, of Jacksonville, peacefully answered God's call surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Community Hospice Morris Center for Caring, Jacksonville. The daughter of Ervin & Willie Mae (Darlington) Ross, Sr., she was a native of Hastings, born on Sunday, January 18, 1942. She was educated in the St. Johns County School District and was a 1959 graduate of Walter E. Harris High School. Subsequently, she earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Education from Edward Waters College, Master of Arts Degree in Education from Florida A&M University, and Doctorate of Divinity from Central Christian University. Betty was an educator for over 40 years, teaching Health Science & Physical Education courses in Duval and Baker counties. She was affiliated with innumerable organizations including: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Princess of Sheba #75-O.E.S. She served in the United States Army Reserve (1974-1986). At an early age she joined Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Hastings. As a resident of Jacksonville, she united with Dayspring Baptist Church and subsequently Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church. She was the founder of Watch the Lamb Prison Ministry and Tutt's Transitional House. Pastor Tutt was a hardworking and strong woman whose faith in God brought her through many dangers, toils, and snares over 74 years. Her ministerial calling reached and touched multiple generations. She took great pride in helping her family and the community. She shared the gospel at prisons throughout the State of Florida.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by: her husband, Reverend Louis Melvin Tutt, Jr.; sister, Julia Lynette Wilson-Janvier.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory: Loving & Devoted Daughter, Monique Scott; Son, John (Cynthia) Scott, Jr.; 9 Grandchildren, Johndra, D'Andre (Brittnee) Kenyale, Keaira, Akeera, Brandon, Omyrii, Asayla, Ozorria, Ahrria; 8 Great-Grandchildren; Sisters, Mary Ann Killing, Earlean Ross Tooley, Wilhelmenia Ross, Marie Ross (Richard) Crooms, Juanita Ross Harderman, Sandra Ross (Howard) King, Charie Ross (Sam) Lookadoo, May Ross (LJ) Boyd, Linda Ross (Marion) Boyd; Brothers, Ervin (Dianne) Ross, Jr., Arnesto Ross; Goddaughters, Art-Tesha Tolliver, Jessica Adams, Best Friends, Lizzie Simmon, Agnes Maybn; and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and caring friends.
