Bettie Jean Williams Winker, 96, of Ormond Beach, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022 at Opis Coquina Center, Ormond Beach. A native of West Union, WV, and the daughter of Clyde and Clara Williams, she was born on Saturday, November 7, 1925. Bettie was a 1943 graduate of St. Mary's High School, Buckhannon, WV. After graduation, she worked for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company - then moved to Niagara Falls, NY during the war. She worked there as Inspector for the Carborundum Company. In 1946, she married Thomas Winker of Niagara Falls and they moved to Florida in 1948. She then worked for Elinor Village Resort. Bettie was once a member of the Riviera Country Club, Trinity Lutheran Church and was active in the American Heart Association. She enjoyed writing poetry and short stories.
Bettie is predeceased by her loving parents Clyde and Clara Williams, her husband, Thomas Winker, and her sister Norma Stock of Texas.
Bettie is survived by her loving daughters , Shelley (Allison) Wood, Ormond Beach; Julie (Wayne) McClain, Palatka; grandchildren , Kellee (Chris) Fulton, Ponce Inlet; Dalton Herbein, Palatka, Jacob (Sarah) Herbein, Green Cove Springs; step - grandchildren , Rebecca McClain and Kristen (Adam) Redd, Atlanta; great grandchildren , Nelanee, Gabe, Zoee, Mallory and Liam; sister-in-law , Joyce Hitchcock; nieces and nephews , Ken and Randy Winker, Ann Clarice Dunaway, Cindy Watkins, Rick and Tim Graf, Kandi Patrum, Tami Bronaugh and Robin Webb.
In Bettie's last writings she stated to her family and friends, "My love to everyone who made my life happy. You all meant so much to me and I thank you for all your love and help. I was indeed so proud of knowing each and every one of you!" At Bettie's request, there will be no service. Donations can be made to the McClain Family Foundation, 285 W River Rd, Palatka, FL 32177.
