Bessie Maebell Hendrieth-Thomas, 71, of Palatka entered the sunset of life on Monday, May 28, 2012 at Putnam Community Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of St. Augustine, she was born on Monday, August 5, 1940 to Luther and Minnie Hayward Hendrieth, Sr. "Maebell's" childhood years were spent in Palatka and she was educated in the Putnam County School District. She later relocated to Miami and served over 30 years employed as a waitress, cook, and cashier. In 1993, "Maebell" returned to Palatka to be closer to her family. She attended the Palatka Church of God By Faith and enjoyed cooking and sharing quality time with visiting family and friends. In addition to her parents, "Maebell" was preceded in eternal rest by her siblings, Artie Lee Lewis, Pauline Townsend, Luther "Big Man" Hendrieth, Jr., and James Hendrieth. Those who cherish her memories: two daughters, Thomasina Link and Lillian Link; son, Larry Watts III; Brother, Izell Hendrieth; sisters, Lillie Bell "Ma-Ree" Brooks; sister in law, Shirley Hendrieth, all of Palatka; grandson, Artavious "A.J." Ward Jr., Palatka; raised as daughters and son, Kenyatta Hendrieth, Clearwater; Lamarkita Davis, Jacksonville and Fredrick (Lena) Hendrieth, Palatka; god sister, Joanne Hatten both of Palatka; devoted friend, Patricia White, Miami; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and caring friends. Visitation of family and friends will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 1st at the "Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 12 noon Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Palatka Church of God By Faith, 1511 Washington Street, Elder Phillip Thomas, pastor, officiating. Elder Leo A. Parker II, associate minister of New Life Temple Fellowship OCI, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery. The cortege will assemble 11:20 a.m. at the family residence, 503 N. 23rd Street Apt. C-156, Palatka.
