Bertha "Sparrow" Smith Wright, 100, of St. Augustine, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Community Hospice, Acosta-Rua Center for Caring, Jacksonville. A native of Moultrie, GA, she was the daughter of Allen and Elizabeth (Hill) Smith, born on Wednesday, January 24, 1917. Bertha worked and retired as a domestic engineer for many of St. Augustine's elite families. She enjoyed socializing with her many friends. "Sparrow" as she was affectionately known, was an excellent cook, seamstress, quilter, and crafter. She especially loved fishing and taking pictures. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. Bertha was always willing to help others in any way she could.

In addition to her parents, Bertha was preceded in eternal rest by her: husband, Robert "Track" Wright, only son, Charlie A. Colson; only sister whom she loved very dearly, Leva Smith; great-grandson, Markell Colson; devoted friends, Arthur Wright and Hazel Wright.

To cherish her memories: loving and devoted granddaughter (caregiver), Victoria C. Singleton, Jacksonville; grandchildren, Joann Colson, Roderick Colson; great-grandchildren, Bernard Life, Kayla Medlock, Kristara Colson, all of Jacksonville; Octavia (Tyson) Singleton-Lee, St. Augustine; great-great grandsons, Kevin Jones and Khaleb Lee; godson, Clarence Eads, West Palm Beach; niece, Maxine Roach and family; cousins, Anderson (Clair) Walker; Lester Smith and family, Pearline Singleton and family; Johnnie House and family, Odessa Hooker and family; and a host of other relatives and friends, including, Mary Warren-Brown.

A Celebration of Bertha's Life will be 11 a.m., Friday, December 1st at New Jerusalem Worship Ministries, 5196 Avenue B, St. Augustine. Reverend George A. Price, Pastor of St. Matthew Baptist Church, Jacksonville, officiating.
