Bernice Loretta Walker, 72, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka following an extended illness. A native of East Palatka, she was a lifelong resident of Putnam County and was born on Saturday, July 15, 1939 to Ernest & Gladys (Burke) Walker. At an early age she became a member of Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church, East Palatka. She later joined Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church. She was a 1956 graduate of Central Academy High School and also attended Florida A & M University in Tallahassee. She was a longtime teachers aide at the former Central Academy Elementary School, Palatka Central High School and Palatka High School with over 20 years of devoted service to the Putnam County School District. In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in eternal rest by her brother Charles Walker. Bernice leaves to cherish her memories: Sons; Asad Hajur Bey {fka Z. Craig Savall}, Palatka; Tariq Asar (Debbie) Bey {fka Alex Jenkins}, Jacksonville; Khalid Omar (Dionne) Bey {fka Kevin D. Walker}, Palatka; sister, Gloria (Lawrence) Thompson, Jacksonville; 6 grandchildren; Dawn (Dorsett) Watson & Alexis Jenkins, all of Jacksonville; Kevin Walker, Jr., Jabria Walker, & Hakeem Bey, all of Palatka; Larry Blue, Crescent City; 3 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many caring friends. Visitation of family and friends will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 719 Reid Street, Palatka, Rev. James A. McGriff, Pastor. Reverend Julius Jackson, pastor of Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, East Palatka, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Pattersonville Memorial Cemetery, East Palatka. The cortege will assemble 1:20 p.m. Saturday at the Walkers residence, 203 3rd Avenue, Palatka
