Obituary

Bernell Sloan Williams, 78, of East Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Haven Hospice of the Lakes Roberts Care Center, Palatka, following an extended illness. A native of Madison County (Lovett), FL., she was the daughter of Will and Susie (Daniels) Sloan, born on Sunday, June 9, 1934. At an early age her family relocated to the Putnam-St. Johns County area coming from Madison. She was a graduate of the Walter E. Harris High School (Hastings), class of 1952. Bernell was united in Holy Matrimony to Moses Williams on December 24, 1954 and they remained together for over 53 years until his transition into eternal rest on November 4, 2008. For over 30 years, Bernell was co-owner and bookkeeper for the family's businesses (Williams Concrete Service & Williams Recycling). Bernell was a longtime member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, East Palatka. A devoted homemaker, she enjoyed reading, fishing, gardening and taking annual vacations with the girls (her 4 beloved daughters). She really loved the Lord and adored her close-knit family. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in eternal rest by a son, Steven Williams; brother, Willie "Buddy" Sloan; sisters, Leola "Lee" Sloan and Ruby Collier. Her quiet, kindred legacy will be forever cherished and best remembered by her daughters and sons, Faye (Carl) Davis, San Mateo; Juliet Williams, East Palatka; Victor (Cantrece) Williams, Freehold, NJ; Yvonne (Larry) Washington, Miami; Roderick (Joann) Williams, Trelane Williams, Thalia Williams, and Karon Williams, all of East Palatka; "Just like daughters" Ruth Williams, Aurora, CO; Lavonda Williams, Palatka; 25 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Rev. James (Elouise) Sloan, Crescent City; Johnnie Sloan, Irvington, NJ; Corine Christopher, Valdosta, GA., Bertha Watkins, Orlando, FL; Mattie Spell, Palatka; a host of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends: 5 - 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 22nd at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 5th and Louis Broer Streets, East Palatka, Rev. James Sloan, Pastor. Homegoing Celebration: 12 noon Saturday, June 23rd, at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 719 Reid Street, Palatka, Rev. James McGriff, Pastor. Rev. Karl N. Flagg, pastor of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, is the Eulogist. The cortege will assemble 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the William's residence, 734 SR 207, East Palatka. Interment will be in Pattersonville Memorial Cemetery, East Palatka.
