Bermodie "Modie" Evans Gilyard, 52, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at her residence. A native of Hastings, she was the daughter of Willie James and Hattie Mae (Dowling) Evans, born on Tuesday, August 20, 1968. She was educated in the St. Johns County School District at Hastings High School and a 1986 graduate of St. Augustine High School. She attended DeVry University and subsequently completed her prerequisites for the nursing program at St. Johns River State College. Bermodie was a member of Pompey's Temple Church of God in Christ, Hastings. For many years, she was a care provider and served as a certified nursing assistant, home health aide and medical secretary. She was very compassionate about caring for the elderly, enjoyed couponing and loved to spend time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by her siblings , Willie James, Evans, Jr., Patricia Evans, and Raymond Evans; loving father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mathew and Betty Gilyard.
She leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Mathew Gilyard, Jr.; sons, Bobby Smith, Jr., Andre (Camilla) Evans, and Brandon Johnson; daughter, Matisha Gilyard; 6 grandchildren, Zaidyn and Aviona Evans, Ayden Gilyard, Maleik Johnson, Andre, Jr. and Andrea Evans; siblings, Ronald (Jequita) Evans, Sr., Linda Goff, Gregory (Debra) Evans, Eugene Evans, Monica Goff, Cheryl (Anthony) Coleman, Cynthia Lewis, Tangela Harris, Reginald Roberts, Jeffrey (Lolita) Stewart, Patrick (Kathy) Stewart, Roger Harris; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Terricena (Rev. Karl) Flagg, Paul (Xiomara) Gilyard, Sr., Linda Evans, Dorothy Evans; special aunt, Helen (Anthony, Sr.) Williams; numerous cousins including, devoted cousins, Florence (Elder Randall) Chestnut, Joann Hughes; and a host of other relatives and caring friends including, Yvonne Wilson, Karon Anderson, Taronia Floyd, Milcah Tucker, and Saundra Carter .
In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines including required masks with social distancing, a visitation of family and friends will be 5-6 p.m., Saturday, January 16 at The Lord's Temple City of Refuge, 140 Gilmore Street, Hastings. A Celebration of Life will be 2 p.m., Sunday, January 17 at the Putnam County Fairgrounds Pavilion, 118 Fairgrounds Road, East Palatka. Elder Randall Chestnut, Pastor, Pompey's Temple COGIC, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, San Mateo.
