Obituary

Deacon Asrial Lewis, 87, native and lifelong resident of East Palatka entered the sunset of life on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Putnam Community Medical Center, Palatka. The son of Ceasar Hardy Lewis and Ethel Norris Lewis, Asrial was born on Tuesday, April 5, 1927 and was educated in the Putnam County School District. Cpl. Lewis was inducted in the United States Army on September 21, 1950, transferred to the Army Reserve on September 11, 1952 and was honorably discharged on July 12, 1956. He was a loyal member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend James Sloan, Sr. He faithfully served on the Deacon's Board for over 40 years and also taught the Men's Sunday School class. On April 3, 1992, he retired as a "Roads Supervisor" following 21 years of meritorious service at Putnam County Public Works Department. Asrial was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his brothers, Richard, Thomas, Roosevelt, Varn, Ceaser, and Charlie Lewis; sisters, Thelma Johnson and Ernestine Baker; granddaughter, Wilondria Grant. He leaves to cherish his memories: loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Mildred V. Hill Lewis; sons and daughters, Willie George (Althea) Mitchell, Philadelphia, PA; Barbara (Alvin) Hall, East Palatka; Tanga (Johnny) Wallace, St. Augustine; Marvin (Dorothy) Lewis, East Palatka; Edward (Carrie) Lewis, Orangeburg. SC; Linda Johnson, Atlanta, GA; Asrial (Shawn) Lewis, Hawthorne; Hattie (Robert) Johnson, East Palatka; Ethel Lewis, East Palatka; brother-in-law, Harold (Vern) McCloud, Tallahassee; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, March 20, at Morning Star Baptist Church, 100 5th Street East, East Palatka. Homegoing Celebration will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 21, at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Pastor. Reverend James Sloan, Sr. is the eulogist. Interment will be in Pattersonville Cemetery, East Palatka.
