Anthony Owens "Kinky" Johnson, 61, of Gainesville, entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Haven Hospice E.T. York Care Center. A native of Satsuma, he was born on Thursday, January 8, 1953 to Willie and Alma (Wilson) Johnson. Anthony was educated in the Putnam County School District. Anthony was a farm labor contractor and auto detailer. Anthony was a people person who never met a stranger and enjoyed fishing, traveling, spending time with family and friends. He was a well-dressed gentleman who would always wear his signature brim. In his early years, he was baptized at the Satsuma Church of God by Faith. His grandmother, Mother Mary Wilson, a powerful, yet humble woman of God, taught him "Ye must be born again." In addition to his parents, Anthony was preceded in eternal rest by maternal grandparents, Walter and Mother Mary Wilson; sister, Alfreda Johnson Drayton; brothers, Willie B. Johnson, Albert Johnson, Arthur Johnson, and Johnny Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Cheryl T. Johnson, Reidsville, NC; daughter, LaShay Johnson, Gulfport, MS; son Eric (Elizabeth) Johnson, Kingston, NY; sisters, Arlene (Samuel Coleman) Johnson, Betty (Joe) Cromwell, Orlando; Cathy (Willie) Gilyard, East Palatka; Bonita (Lonnie) Burden, Satsuma; brothers, Walter Jeff Anderson, Leonard (Cookie Martin) Johnson, and Edward B. (Ann) Johnson, Gainesville; aunt, Rebecca Watson, Tampa; a very special cousin & friend, Jerri Mae Walker, Palatka; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; special granddaughter, Nylah Broadhead; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends. A Memorial Service in honor of Anthony's life will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity."
