Anne Marie Phillips, 74, of Palm Coast, entered the sunset of life on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at AdventHealth Stuart F Meyer Hospice Care Center, Palm Coast. The daughter of Alpha Omega Edmondson, she was born on Monday, November 25, 1946 in New York City. Anne was a 1964 graduate of John Adams High School in NYC and subsequently attended Kingsborough Community College and Fordham University, majoring in English Studies. In 1965, Anne was united in marriage to Leander Cherry and they were blessed with a daughter, Nicole and a son, Julian. In 1987, she was united in marriage to Claude Phillips, Jr. During Anne's early professional years, she worked for various New York banks and eventually became a civil service worker for the City of New York, employed as a Contract Manager, contracting and negotiating NYC bids. In 1998, the Phillips' relocated to Palm Coast. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church since 2004 and was the church's part-time administrative secretary from 2010 to 2015. Anne was a poet and was a member of the Democratic Women's Club of Flagler County, the Flagler County Democratic Club, and the Flagler N.A.A.C.P. She later freelanced and dedicated her time to different ministries within the church and the community. Anne victoriously overcame a number of health battles.
In addition to her mother and husband, Anne was preceded in eternal rest by her brother, Ronald Fordham; grandmother, Julia Samples.
She leaves to cherish her memories: loving son, Julian Cherry; daughter, Nicole (Derek) Cherry-May; granddaughter, Teirra (Ryan) May-Ward; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines (including required masks) a socially-distanced visitation of will be from 9-10 a.m., and a Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 24 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 75 Pine Lakes Pkwy, Palm Coast, Reverend Edwin Coffie, M.Div., Pastor officiating. Interment will be 10 a.m., Monday, April 26 in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Karl N. Flagg Serenity Memorial Chapel, 2400 Madison Street, Palatka, Florida 32177.
