Deacon Alton Raymond Nealy, 88, of Savannah, GA (formerly of Palatka), went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Memorial Health University Medical Center, Savannah, GA. A native of Rebecca, GA, he was the son of William Bud and Ella Gussie (Johnson) Nealy, born on Saturday, August 9, 1930. He was educated in Turner County GA School System. Upon the early demise of his parents, Alton relocated to Palatka, FL. He subsequently met his wife, Inez and in November 1953, he was united in holy matrimony to Inez Jackson and became the parents of seven children. The couple moved to Perth Amboy, NJ and resided there for over 50 years before returning to Palatka. While in New Jersey, Alton was employed as a truck driver with Harry Goldberg Trucking until retiring in 1986. Alton was also an adult baseball league coach as well as an entrepreneur. Upon returning to Palatka, he united with Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, under the pastoral leadership of Superintendent Johnny Shaw, where he faithfully served as a Trustee and Deacon. In February 2017, Alton and Inez relocated to Savannah, GA.
In addition to his parents, Alton was preceded in eternal rest by his daughter, Kathy E. Nealy (June 24, 2016) and numerous brothers and sisters.
He leaves to cherish his memories: devoted wife, Inez Nealy, Savannah, GA; son, Alton (Darlene) Nealy, Jr., Keasbey, NJ; daughters, Evangelist Carolyn (Phillip) Chatman, Rosemary (Bishop Calvin) Singleton, Christine Nealy, Tammy (Zandy) Nealy, all of Savannah, GA; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ernestine Nealy, Lakeland; and a host of caring relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 12-2 p.m., Saturday, September 8 with Homegoing Celebration commencing at 2 p.m. at Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, 624 North 9th Street, Palatka, Bishop Gary Hall, Sr., Jurisdictional Prelate, Central Florida First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, Church of God in Christ, (Pastor). Pastor Emeritus Johnny Shaw is the eulogist. Interment will be in Pattersonville Cemetery, East Palatka.
