Obituary

Alphonso Jenkins, 71, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Putnam Community Medical Center. A native of Green Cove Springs, he was the son of Samuel and Alma (Hall) Jenkins, born on Saturday, August 7, 1943. Alphonso was a graduate of Central Academy High School, Class of 1961. He and his sweetheart Clyde Louvenia (London) Jenkins were longtime friends before they united in marriage. He was a longtime employee of Georgia-Pacific (formerly Hudson Pulp & Paper Mill) as a Recovery & Lime Kiln Operator, retiring after 39 years of service. His favorite pastime was watching television. Alphonso was an avid sports fan, especially football and golf. His favorite football teams were Tallahassee's FAMU Rattlers and in the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys. He was also a Tiger Woods fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his brother, John Wesley Jenkins; daughter, Kathy Darnell Wright. He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Clyde Louvenia (London) Jenkins, Palatka; daughter, Kimberly (Harrison III) Edwards; sons, David (Dorothy E.) Wright and James Keith (Tisheco) Hendrieth, all of Palatka; Victor (Robin) Wright, Jacksonville; brothers and sisters, Samuel (Maude) Jenkins, Jr., Ft. Lauderdale; Lorene Jenkins (Earl) Hutchinson, Washington D.C; Calzina "Cat" Fletcher, Philadelphia, PA; Wilmon Jenkins, Palatka; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gussie (Charles) Woodward, Summerville, SC; Walter Major Jr., Anthony Major, and Cheryl (Ricardo) Bryant, all of St. Augustine; Debra Bush, Jacksonville; Jeanne (Herbert) Wyche, Newark, NJ; 31 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, June 19, and Homegoing Celebration with U.S. Army Military Honors will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 20, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Reverend Frederick T. Demps., Pastor of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, is the eulogist. Interment will be at 9:30 a.m., Monday, June 22, in the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
