Obituary

Deacon Alonzo Jackson, Jr., 69, of San Mateo, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, Palatka. The son of Alonzo and Dorothy (Norman) Jackson, Sr., he was born on Friday, October 27, 1950 in Daytona Beach. Alonzo was educated in the Volusia County School and a 1968 graduate of Campbell High School, Daytona Beach. In 1972, Alonzo united in holy matrimony to the former Yvonne McLeod and they relocated to Putnam County in 1973, coming from Daytona Beach. He was a member, faithful Deacon (subsequently ordained as a minister) and General Financial Secretary of Holy Temple of God, Inc. Alonzo was a longtime laboratory engineer employed by Florida Power & Light at the East Palatka power plant for 25 years and subsequently, Seminole Electric for 5 years. He enjoyed worshiping the Lord, attending church services and watching his favorite college football team, University of Miami Hurricanes. In addition to his parents, Alonzo was preceded in eternal rest by his daughter , Yvonne E. Norman; sister , Rita Hall Jackson.

He leaves to cherish his memories: devoted wife of 47 years, Yvonne McLeod Jackson San Mateo; children, Aundrey C. (Erica "Nikki") Jackson, San Mateo; Audrey V. Holmes, Manhattan, KS; Alonzo Jackson, III, Long Island, NY; 7 grandchildren, Ashley Jackson, D'Shawn Jackson, Ajele Smith Jackson, Derrick H. Gilyard, Robin Holmes, Chloe Jackson, Bethany L. Holmes; brother, Alphonso L. Jackson, Daytona Beach; goddaughter, Brittany (Tyrone "Steve") Lawton, Palatka; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be from 5-8 p.m., Friday, November 22, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m., Saturday, November 23 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Pastor. Presiding Bishop Harvey J. Hutchinson, Jr., of Landmark Holy Temple of God, Gainesville, is the eulogist.
