Alma Wilson Johnson, 83, of Palatka was called into eternal rest at 6:08 a.m. on Monday, October 11, 2010 at Halifax Health Medical Center, Daytona Beach after a loving and fulfilled life. On July 17, 1924, Walter & Mary (Griffin) Wilson welcomed into this world, a beautiful daughter, Alma Wilson in Satsuma. She was educated in the Putnam County School System and accepted Christ at an early age at the Church of God by Faith. In 1940, she met and married Willie Redd Willie Johnson and to this marital union twelve children were born. Alma was an industrious woman who was employed in numerous jobs throughout her working career to include Head Start Teacher, manager of Palatka Liquors, manager of Goodwill Thrift Store and a Nutritionist at the former Putnam Memorial Hospital. She was also a very successful migrant contractor and restaurant entrepreneur in partnership with her husband.
Alma enjoyed fishing, crocheting, watching TV especially baseball and spending time with her family. She loved to entertain and see people smile and it was incredibly common for friends to stay at her home for days at a time laughing and eating together, especially on the weekends.
Alma is preceded in eternal rest by her parents; husband, Willie Johnson; sons, Willie B. Johnson, Albert B. Johnson, Arthur L. Johnson; Daughter, Alfreda Johnson; and brothers, Clyde Wilson and Sonny Wilson.
To Cherish Her Life and Legacy of Memories: 4 Sons, Walter Anderson, Anthony Johnson, Leonard Johnson, all of Orlando; Edward B. (Ann) Johnson, Gainesville; 4 Daughters, Arlene (Samuel Coleman) Johnson, Betty (Joe) Cromwell, both of Orlando; Cathy (Willie) Gilyard, Palm Coast; Bonita (Lonnie) Burden, Palatka; Faithful & Devoted Sister, Rebecca Watson, Tampa; over 50 Grandchildren and 60 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and caring friends especially her special niece, Jerrie May.
Visitation of family & friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, October 15 at the Chapel of Serenity.
Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the Palatka Church of God by Faith, 1511 Washington Street, Palatka, Elder Phillip Thomas, Pastor. Elder Loverso Walker, pastor of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, Daytona Beach is the eulogist.
Interment will be in Oak Hill East Cemetery
