Alma Agnes Brown, 88, of Palm Coast, FL (Bronx, New York), entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, February 1st at Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast. Alma was a native of Manhattan, NY., born on January 7, 1923 as the youngest of three children born to Allman & Annie Lou (Smalls) Davis. At a young age, she moved to Allen, Maryland and was christened at Friendship Methodist Episcopal Church. During her teens she relocated back to New York and graduated from Harren High School (class of 40). She was employed in the federal Military Dependents Benefits office in Washington D.C., and from the early 1960s-80s she was a Telephone Operator for the New York Telephone Company. Alma was united in Holy Matrimony to Edward H. Brown, Sr. on June 22, 1946. She was an independent thinker with a secure sense of self and was a fountain of joy and wisdom for those around her. Alma was proud of her family heritage and cherished discussions of the historical events and personalities. Her beautiful uplifting smile was contagious and displayed often, especially upon seeing loved ones, and it exemplified her warm heart, love and happy soul.
She is survived by her dear lifetime friend & sister: Dorothy Davis; Two sons and two daughter-in-laws: Edward H. Mike Brown Jr. & Wilhelmina Wunlam KiJoti-Brown; Gary Davis Brown & Louise Bowens-Brown; Two grandchildren: Khari Imarogbe Brown; Edwina Mezo; nephews: Mark Davis; Jason Pittman, Sr.; niece: Risa A. Pittman; sister-in-law: Hedi Davis; Several first cousins: including, but not limited to, Lily Peavy, Mae Francis (Smalls) Middleton and Elizabeth Smalls; and a host other cousins, extended family, friends, associates and neighbors.
Visitation and viewing will be Saturday, February 12, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at McCalls Bronxwood Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, February 13 at 2 p.m., at Metropolitan Community United Methodist Church 45 East 126th Street Manhattan, New York 10035. Private Entombment will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 14 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, NY.
