Allen Thomas, Sr. 51, of San Mateo, entered the sunset of life on Friday, November 26, 2010, at Putnam Community Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Barney, Georgia, Allen was born June 2, 1959, to Charlie & Christine (McKinnon) Thomas, Sr. At the age of 3, his family moved to San Mateo and he was educated in the Putnam County School District (Palatka High School, Class of 78). Allen was a member of Second Mt Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, San Mateo and sang in the choir. In 2006, he moved to West Palm Beach, recently returning to Palatka. He was a former deliveryman for Badcock Home Furnishings in Palatka. While in High School, Allen enjoyed playing football.
Allen is preceded in eternal rest by his mother, Christine Thomas; sister, Kimberly Thomas; maternal grandfather, Deacon Willie Frank McKinnon; paternal grandfather, Dossie Thomas Sr.; maternal grandmother, Jesse Mae (Pinkney) McKinnon; and paternal grandmother, Onnie Lee Thomas.
To Cherish His Memories: beloved sons and daughter, Allen Thomas Jr., Antoinette Beckton, both of Jacksonville; Bravia Paul, Tallahassee; Father, Charlie Thomas Sr., San Mateo; Grandmother, Maerener McKinnon, San Mateo; sisters, Helen (Keith) Gilyard, Vickie (Earl) Nelson , Mary (Nathaniel) Brewer, Willie Mae (Larry Session) Thomas, all of Palatka; Brother, Charlie Thomas Jr., Gainesville; devoted Niece (like a daughter), Doretha Mack; 5 Grandchildren; 1 Grandson, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and caring friends .
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, December 3, 2010 at the Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 4, at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Rev. Karl N. Flagg, Pastor. The Reverend Wayne Williams, pastor of Second Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, San Mateo, is the eulogist.
Interment will be in Oak Hill East Cemetery.
