Alice Alston Pringle, 91, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, April 8 at her son Keith Pringles residence in Oviedo, Florida.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Palatka, Florida born Monday, October 14, 1918. The daughter of Henry W. & Gertrude (Stephel) Alston, Sr., she was educated in the Putnam County School District at Central Academy High School. A lifelong member of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, she joined the church and was baptized in July 1930. She was a loyal, longtime dental technician in the dental practice of Dr. A. M. Hedick and Dr. F.W. Whitmire, where she was continuously employed for over 50 years until retirement. Over the years, she served in numerous church ministries including Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Senior Choir leader, Usher Ministry #3, Beautification, Finance, Pulpit Aide, Church Historian, and Trustee Ministries. The honor of Trustee Emeritus was bestowed upon her several years ago and in September 2009, she was distinguished as the oldest and longest serving member of Mt. Tabor, serving nearly 80 years. In her early years, Mrs. Pringle was a daughter of Nottage Temple #484, I.B.P.O.E.W., and a Philo affiliate of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. In 1976, she sang in the Putnam County Bi-Centennial Choir. Her hobbies included gardening, participating in fashion shows; interior designing, and she had a love for nature, (birds and butterflies were her favorites).
Mrs. Pringle was preceded in eternal rest by her beloved parents; Husband, James Pringle who preceded her on March 7, 2009; Brother, Henry W. Buster Alston Jr., Sister, Gwendolyn Parthenia Pat Blakeley; Aunt, Ella S. Banks, and her prized poodle, Pepper.
Those she leave to celebrate her life and cherish her memories: Devoted daughter: Ruth A. (Roosevelt) Burley, Miami; Loyal Son, Keith A. Pringle, Oviedo; Granddaughters, Kimberly A. Burley and Shannon B. Burley, both of Miami; Brother, Charles N. Alston, Bronx, NY; Sister, Alberta A Hill, Ft. Walton Beach, Sister-in-law, Willie L. Nixon, Palatka; A host of Nieces and Nephews, especially Rebecca B. Springfield, Maplewood, NJ and Gwendolyn A. Blakeley, Orange, NJ; Wanda H. (Ben) Seals, Pascagoula, MS; Rhett (Barbara) Alston, Bluffton, SC; Charlie H. (Jenell) Hill Jr., Lockhart, AL; Warren (Pattie) Hill, Ft. Walton Beach, FL; and Ulysses B. (Tammi) Blakeley Jr., Chicago, IL, Fred Calvin (Linda) Marshall, Marvin Bobby (Sylvia) Marshall and Michael (Mary) Marshall, Cynthia Marshall, all of Palatka; A host of other relatives, numerous special extended family members especially Dr. and Mrs. F.W. Whitmire Sr. and their son F.W. Whitmire Jr., East Palatka; Jeanne Cooper and Dr. and Mrs. Richard A. Perallon, Palatka; and her famed Pomeranian, Cosmos.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday April 16, 2010 at The Chapel of Serenity.
Homegoing Celebration will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 17 at Mt Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Ave. Palatka, Rev Karl N. Flagg, Pastor, presiding. The Rev. Dr. Eugene F. Broxton, of Ocala is the Eulogist.
Interment will follow in the Oak Hill West Cemetery.
