Obituary

Alfred Oliver O.C. Henderson, 52, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine following an extended illness. He was born on Friday, December 30, 1955 to Oliac Curtis O.C. and Clareatha (Smith) Henderson in Wildwood, FL. He was a lifelong resident of Palatka and a 1974 graduate of Palatka Central High School. In his youthful years, he was baptized at Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. James A. Wright. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army and earned an honorable discharge in 1978. He began his career in civil service as a logistics specialist at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville and retired following 17 years of employment. Alfred found his serenity and peace at the beach where he spent most of his days. He loved his family and was especially devoted to his nieces and nephews. Alfreds hobbies were hunting, fishing, raising pit bulls, and he enjoyed beautifying his neighborhoods landscape. He was a true outdoorsman. Alfred was preceded in eternal rest by his parents, O.C. and Clareatha Henderson; maternal grandparents, Hastings (Annie) Smith; and paternal grandparents, Oscar (Lizzie) Henderson. Visitation of family and friends will be Friday, August 29, from 5-8 p.m. at the Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Celebration will be Saturday, August 30, 11 A.M. at the Chapel of Serenity, 2400 Madison Street, Palatka, Rev. Anthony Q. Robinson, Sr., Pastor of Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, is the Eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery, Palatka.
