Alfred Washington Epps, 56, of Miami, entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 in Miami. He was a native of Orlando, born on Thursday, August 12, 1954 to Albert Washington A.W. Epps, Sr., and Johnnie Mae Herlong Epps. He was a 1971 graduate of Maynard Evans High School, Orlando. In his early years, He attended the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Orlando. Upon graduating from high school, Alfred joined the U. S. Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC; Parris Island, SC., and Camp Pendleton, CA. He subsequently joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Okinawa and Fort Richardson, AK. In 1975, Alfred was united in marriage to the former Rosetta Williams in Charleston, SC. In addition to his parents, Alfred was preceded in eternal rest by his maternal grandparents, Henry & Carrie Herlong; paternal grandparents, Albert W. Epps, Sr., and Alice Mae Hopkins Epps. To Cherish his memories: Daughter, Latoya Epps; Granddaughter, Janahla Bennett, both of Lakeland; two Sisters: Cecilia Epps (Noah)Hardy, Crescent City; Sandra Epps (Charles), Houston, TX; Brother: Norris Epps, Savannah, GA; devoted aunt: Alice Mae Epps (Lester) James, Palatka; Anna Herlong, Pomona Park; devoted longtime friend: Tammie Young, Miami; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Private interment: New Mt. Tamo Cemetery, Pomona Park with Rev. Karl N. Flagg, officiating. A Memorial Tribute and Fellowship will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011 at his aunts residence, Alice Mae Epps-James, 718 North 16th Street, Palatka.
