Albert Robert Barney, Jr., 30, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Putnam Community Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Baltimore, MD., he was the son of Patricia Briggs and Albert R. Barney, Sr., born on Monday, October 18, 1982. Following relocation to Palatka, Albert was educated in the Putnam County School District and attended Palatka High School (Class of 2001). He visited Pentecostal Church of God In Christ. Affectionately known as "Worm," he was employed as a tire technician at the Goodyear Tire Company. He was recognized for his consistent ability to persevere without restrictions in spite of his physical limitations. Albert was an avid Gators fan enjoyed playing basketball, watching sports, and spending time with family and friends. Albert was preceded in eternal rest by his grandmother, Dorothea Smith; sister, Shantell Jett; brother, William Drafts; aunts, Drucilla Brayboy and Gloria Armstrong; cousin, Antonie Jett. Those who cherish his memories; father, Albert Barney, Sr., Baltimore, MD., mother, Patricia Briggs (Fiancé, Thedford Brown), Palatka; siblings, Edward Smith, Green Cove Springs; Lamont Barney, Baltimore, MD, Patricia Barney, Jasmine Smith, Shanteria Brown, Victoria Ogaga, all of Palatka; grandfather, Erlie (Rosemary) Briggs, Riverhead, NY; aunts and uncles, Delores (Eugene, Jr.) Briggs-Foster, Rosemary Johnson, Jannie (Stanley) Cooper, Tony (Demetra Jenkins) Brayboy; and a host of other relatives and caring friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5 - 8 pm Friday, August 23rd at Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 4 pm Saturday, August 24th at the Chapel. Reverend Clarence Williams, Jr., pastor of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Pattersonville Memorial Cemetery, East Palatka.
