Obituary

Al-Amin H. Pasha, 64, of Newark, New Jersey, entered the sunset of life on Friday, February 10, 2012 at St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, New Jersey. A native of Columbia, South Carolina, he was born on Wednesday, January 21, 1948 to James and Dorothea Coleman. At the age of 15, his family relocated to Newark and Al-Amin, as a young teenager, became a loyal provider for all of his siblings. At the age of 18, Al-Amin enlisted in the United States Army. He earned numerous medallions including, the National Defense Service, Vietnam Campaign and Vietnam Service Medals, Combat Infantryman and Parachute Badges and earned an honorable discharge. While on active duty, he toured in Vietnam and as a result of an injury sustained by a frag grenade he finished the remainder of his military service state side in Fort Dix, N.J. In 1989, he was united in Holy Matrimony to his loving, faithful and heaven sent wife, Cecelia Pasha. He was formerly employed as a teacher, postal employee, military police officer and a correctional officer. During the summer he served as a camp counselor at the Newark YMWCA. He was preceded in eternal rest by his parents. Those who will cherish his legacy of love: beloved wife of 23 years, Cecelia Pasha, Newark, NJ; He was the devoted father of Ibn El-Amin Pasha, Hasaan Kiwan Pasha, and Jihad Said Pasha and an additional adopted son, Amir Charles Dryers; siblings; Yvonne M. Coleman, Saleem S. Pasha, Sutan E. Coleman, and Douglas F. Coleman; half-brother and half-sister, Lawrence Coleman and Phyllis Coleman; 5 grandchildren, Jetta, Troy, Martavious, Sheeba and Kiwan; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other caring relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, February 17th, at the "Chapel of Serenity." A Celebration commemorating Al-Amin's life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 719 Reid Street, Palatka, Rev. James McGriff, pastor. Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Pastor of Mt. Tabor First Baptist, is the eulogist. Interment will be Oak Hill West Cemetery, Palatka.
