Ada Washington Whitaker, 82, of Crescent City, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, April 23 in Lake Mary. A native and longtime resident of Crescent City, she was born on Monday, March 16, 1931 to Archie & Ether (General) Washington. She attended Middleton School. Ada was employed in Environmental Services at Lakewood Nursing Center. She confessed Christ as a member of St. John Methodist Episcopal Church (later known as St. John United Methodist Church). Subsequently, she united with Union Bethel A.M.E. Church and untiringly labored as a Steward until her health diminished. She was faithful in attendance at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Sanford. Her passion for helping was demonstrated through her community involvement as a Charter Member and Secretary of the Crescent City Women's Civic Association, Crescent City Community Chorus, South Putnam Christian Service Center, American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, and the Heroines of Jericho. Ada's hobbies included gardening, reading and fishing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by her husband, Tommie K. "Bud" Whitaker; son, Cary Whitaker, I; brothers, Archie Washington, Jr., and Roosevelt Washington; sisters, Gertie Lee Morgan, Essie Mae Lawton, Frances Ponder, and Viola Jackson. Those who cherish and celebrate her memories: son, John (Mary) Whitaker, Sebring, FL; daughters, Rosa Sally Pickett and Margaret Gordon, both of Lake Mary; Ann (Claude) Milsap, Orlando; sister, Gussie Oliver, St. Petersburg; aunt, Frances Washington, Crescent City; 10 grandchildren; 20+ great grandchildren; godchildren, LaShonda Simmons and Kieran "Bam" Brady; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and caring friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 3 at Union Bethel A.M.E. Church, 510 Eucalyptus Avenue, Crescent City. A Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4 at True Foundation Ministries, 608 Randolph Street, Crescent City, Pastor Gwendolyn George. Reverend Willie Williams, Pastor of Union Bethel A.M.E. Church, presiding and Reverend Valarie J. Houston, pastor of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Sanford, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Crescent City.
