Abe Duggie Jones, Jr., 68, of East Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Putnam Community Medical Center, Palatka following a brief illness. A native of Orange Mills, Abe was born on Thursday, August 19, 1943 to Abe and Lizzie (Hicks) Jones, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of the East Palatka area and was a 1962 graduate of Central Academy High School. In his early years, he attended Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church of Orange Mills. A longtime entrepreneur, he was a labor contractor and owner-operator of Jones Trucking for nearly 50 years. Abe was a devoted family man who was united in holy matrimony to the former Beaulah McCormick on September 15, 1965 in Palatka. He enjoyed watching television and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his paternal grandparents, Harry and Ida Jones; sisters, Willie Mae Robinson, Blanche Jones, Queen Johnson, Estelle Jones and brother; James Bubba Jones, Sr.

Those who cherish his life and legacy; devoted wife of 46 years, Beaulah M. Jones, East Palatka; beloved sons and daughters; Dorothy Jones, Palatka; Connie Jones, East Palatka; Floretta J. Robinson (Michael), Middleburg; Abe Gerod Jones (Michelle), Raleigh, NC; Gerald Jones, Orlando; 4 grandchildren; Terrell Jones, Sr., St. Augustine; Abram Jones, East Palatka; Adrienne Hill, Palatka; Darius Robinson, Middleburg; 2 great-grandchildren; Terrell Jones, Jr., St. Augustine; Amariah Taylor, Palatka; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, October 14 with a Memorial Tribute from 6-7 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, 416 Daniels Street, Hastings. Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 15, at The Lord's Temple, City of Refuge Ministries, 140 Gilmore Street, Hastings, Elder Thomas Cave III, Pastor. His son, Reverend Gerald S. Jones, of Be A Champion, LLC., & Orlando World Outreach Center, Orlando, Florida, is the eulogist. The cortege will assemble at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Jones family residence, 114 Walt McCormick Road, East Palatka.

Interment will be in Pattersonville Cemetery.
