Biography

Faith “Pat” Curtenia Powell Belton, 48, of Palatka entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at the Orange Park Medical Center following an extended illness. The daughter of James Luther Powell and Doretha Mattear Beauford, she was a native of Newport News, VA., born on Thursday, October 8, 1964 and has been a resident of Palatka since 1965. In her early years, she was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, East Palatka. She was a 1983 graduate of Palatka High School and subsequently attended St. Johns River Community College (Early Child Development & Computer Technology). After meeting “C.S.” in the summer of 1976, they were united in marriage on July 31, 1992. Over the years she was employed as a teacher at Storybook Cottage and a cook at Camp Kateri in Orange Park. She was employed by the Putnam County School District for 15 years, serving as secretary at Browning Pearce, Interlachen, and Moseley Elementary Schools; Computer Lab Director at Mellon Elementary School and receptionist at Beasley Middle School. Faith was the nominee for Support Associate of the Year at Beasley Middle School (1996 & 2001) and Technologist of the Year at Mellon Elementary School (2002). In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, fishing, reading and shopping.

In addition to her father, Faith was preceded in eternal rest by her stepfather, Jasper Smith, Jr., aunt and uncles, Rutha Mae Cooper, Tommy Beauford, Willie Mattear, and Curtis Beauford.

Those who cherish her memories: her devoted husband of 20 years, Courtlandt “C.S.” (Coach) Belton, III, Palatka; beloved mother, Doretha Mattear Beauford, Palatka; caring daughters, Farrah S. Gilyard, Atlanta, GA; Candyce S. Belton and Cortnee S. Belton, both of Palatka; grandchildren; Christiana, Amiyah, and Cortlandt Belton-Dupont, all of Palatka; Jaden Gilyard and Iris Faith Fahnbulleh, both of Atlanta; sisters, Valorie (Patrick) Powell, Jacksonville; Quiana Smith; Sade (Lorenzo) Smith; stepsisters, Contina Smith; Jacqueline Smith; Ja’Tarra Smith; stepbrothers, Jasper Smith, III; Jermaine Smith, all of Palatka; mother-in-law, Harriett Pinkston; father-in-law, Cortlandt S. Belton, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Chris Belton, Craig Belton; sister-in-law, Constance Schneider, all of Palatka, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and caring friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. - 12 noon Saturday at the “Chapel of Serenity.” The Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 20, at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Rev. Karl N. Flagg, Pastor, presiding. Elder Jarvis Wright, of Victorious Faith Church of God In Christ, is the eulogist.

Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.

The Cortege will assemble at 1:15 p.m. Saturday at the Belton family’s residence, 2414 Husson Avenue, Palatka.
